🎯 WHO THIS IS FOR

Families with rising juniors and seniors—and anyone preparing to spend more than $200 this month.

The $1,199 Laptop This Family Did Not Buy

A family I worked with was preparing to spend $1,199 on a laptop for their student.

They had already opened the tabs.

They were comparing stores, checking student discounts, and waiting for the right sale. With enough effort, they probably could have lowered the price to around $950.

But before they bought it, I shared the exact tool I am giving you today.

They ran the laptop through the five-step price ladder.

And they stopped at step one.

The school had a laptop loaner program that the family did not know existed.

Their result:

Original price: $1,199
Final cost: $0
Money kept in their college budget: $1,199

⚡ THIS WEEK’S HACK

Before you ask where to buy it, ask whether you need to buy it.

Most families begin with the store.

That is already too late.

Run the purchase through this five-step ladder first.

  1. FREE

Does the school, library, counselor, teacher, testing agency, or student portal already provide it?

  1. BORROW OR REUSE

Can your student borrow one or use something your family already owns?

  1. LOWER-COST VERSION

Would used, certified refurbished, open-box, rented, or basic work just as well?

  1. WAIT

Will the final schedule, syllabus, roommate assignment, or confirmed requirement change the decision?

  1. BUY ON PURPOSE

Only now should you compare the full cost: price, tax, shipping, accessories, returns, rewards, and timing.

A $250 discount on something you did not need is not a savings.

It is a well-negotiated mistake.

💡 HOW THIS HELPS PAY FOR COLLEGE

The money families spend during junior and senior year is often the same money they need later for:

Application fees

Test registration

College visits

Enrollment deposits

Dorm supplies

The first tuition bill

The goal is not to buy the cheapest version of everything.

The goal is to stop paying for things your family never needed to buy.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

💰 THE NUMBER TO KNOW

$922

That is what families expect to spend on back-to-school shopping per household this year.

The danger is not always one giant purchase.

It is dozens of decisions made quickly, without a clear number or process.

The families who spend the least are not always the best coupon shoppers.

They are the most prepared.

📥 YOUR FREE TOOL THIS WEEK

BEFORE YOU BUY IT

This is the exact tool I shared with my client before they avoided the $1,199 laptop purchase.

Use it with the biggest expense sitting in an open tab right now.

Inside:

✓ The five-step price ladder
✓ A worksheet to compare one real purchase
✓ A laptop savings example
✓ Five questions to ask your teenager

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🔒 WANT THE ACTUAL NUMBERS?

The free tool helps you decide whether to buy.

But it cannot tell you what a laptop should cost, whether your teenager qualifies for a student discount, or when a sale price is still too high.

That is why I created The Price List: 2026.

Inside, you will find:

→ Price targets and walk-away ceilings for laptops, calculators, test prep, senior-year expenses, dorm supplies, and textbooks

→ Student discounts that genuinely include high school students

→ Florida’s 2026 tax-free dates, limits, and exclusions

→ Updated price-matching rules

→ Trusted places to buy used, refurbished, and open-box products

→ Ten purchases with legitimate free alternatives

This is not another list of stores.

It is the number, deadline, free swap, and walk-away point you need before you buy.

❤️ YOUR FIVE-MINUTE WIN

Pick the biggest school-year purchase sitting in an open tab right now.

Before you compare another price, ask:

“Does the school already provide this?”

Then run it through the free five-step ladder.

Even when the answer is still “buy it,” you will know you decided on purpose.

And when the answer is “borrow it,” “reuse it,” or “wait,” move that money into the college budget before it disappears somewhere else.

Paid subscribers can continue below to open The Price List: 2026 and get the exact numbers.

Not ready to subscribe today? Download the free tool and use it on one purchase this week. That one decision could save far more than another coupon ever will.

You do not have to go broke to go to college.
